Nature endowed the village with the unique beauty of a green veil. River Vassilikos runs across the village, creating an imaginary winding alley. The natural surrounding of the village is comprised by wild plantation, cultivated land and an important water dam.
Cultivated land in the village include citrus trees-orange trees, lemon trees, grapefruit trees- fruit bearing trees, such as pear trees and some vine yards.
A major part of the village is covered by wild vegetation consisting of wild asparagus bushes, spiny brooms, thyme, some pine trees as well as some locust trees, known as “teratsies”.
It is worth mentioning that in older times, wild vegetation used to cover the valley of river Vassilikos. That is why the name of the village is related to the ancient word “vassa”, which means busky valley.
The significant water dam of Kalavasos which was constructed on river Vassilikos, contributes in the irrigation of a major part of cultivated land. This project was realized between the years of 1983 and 1985. It is fifty seven meters high and two kilometers long. Its surface covers eight hundred seventy five thousand square meters. Kalavasos dam, along with the dam of Dipotamos are considered “the main irrigation source of Vassilikos-Pendaschinos water plan”.
What is more, the tradition connected with river Vassilikos is worth mentioning. To be more explicit, Agia Eleni rested by the riverbanks of Tetios, while returning from Jerusalem. This river was renamed “Vassilikos”.
To conclude, there is a representative sample of Cypriot fauna. There are several animals for hunting in the village, such as hares and partridges.
